What is your personal growth plan? Devout Christians dedicate their time, treasure, and talent to serving Christ by serving those in need. In Acts 20:35, Luke shares, “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’” (ESV). But in our zeal for our ministry and mission to serve our great God, we must not neglect our relationship with Him.
God desires to have a relationship with His creation. He is always there to help us grow and learn more about Him. In John 15:5, Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” (ESV). Being busy for Jesus is different from abiding with Jesus.
When we intentionally focus on living with Jesus, He directs our path with the purpose of growing us closer to the image and character of God. Part of our responsibility as Christians is to be open to the pruning process so God can work through us to accomplish His great works. While He is working through us, He is also growing us. God is glorified as He grows us through the trials of our lives. When we exercise faith and lean on Him during the challenging moments, we are abiding, we are growing, and we are glorifying Him.
Serving Christ becomes less of a burden when we allow Jesus to fill our cup so we have the substance to pour into others. The more we allow God to develop and grow us, the bigger our cup and the more it is filled to share with others. We must spend time with our Heavenly Father, receiving much so we can give much. Psalm 23:3 teaches, “He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake” (ESV). Allow Jesus to restore your soul today. Let Him fill your cup. Then let your cup overflow onto those around you in your daily life.
