“And on that day you will say, ‘Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; make them remember that His name is exalted.’ Praise the LORD in song, for He has done glorious things; let this be known throughout the earth.” These words found in Isaiah 12:4-5, remind Christians to give thanks to our loving Father in the heavens.
Thanksgiving season is rapidly approaching and many will sit down with family and friends to enjoy a delicious meal. They may even take a nap in a recliner while football games play on the television. Just look around and take notice of the abundance of goodness from our Creator. Everything we are, everything we have, and everything we eat this Thanksgiving is provided in unconditional love from God.
King David danced before the Lord in 2 Samuel 6:14, “And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod.” Will you be dancing in your home with your family this Thanksgiving? What would it take for you to feel as grateful as King David, to dance and sing with all your might before the Lord this Thanksgiving season? What would the Lord need to do for you to make you feel that grateful and thankful?
God is always working in our lives. Every day he is speaking into our hearts. He desires for us to listen and receive the blessing of a relationship with Him. He desires to accomplish amazing things through us. He desires to love us and for us to love Him back. He wants us to recognize Him and express our gratitude for all He does.
What will you be grateful for this Thanksgiving season? How will you express that thankfulness? This year, challenge yourself and your family to really meditate on what God has done and is doing this year in their respective lives. If singing to the Lord is a little outside your comfort zone, then read some of David’s Psalms at the Thanksgiving table. How can we demonstrate our gratitude each day throughout the year? How can we live every day as a Thanksgiving Day?
