The Fall season brings a tremendous amount of change in Ohio. As the temperatures start to drop, brightly colored foliage slowly falls from trees to carpet the ground. Fall is a beautiful time of year. God uses this time of year to protect the trees from the winter season. The trees actually push the leaves of the branches to prevent destruction from the winter winds. The branches then grow new leaves in the spring to nourish the trees with plenty of water for new growth.

The Fall Season also signals the gathering of the harvest. In biblical times, the Israelites were God’s chosen people. Since the Israelites lived in an agricultural society, the fall season was viewed through the lens of a harvest. Harvest is a process in which crops are gathered. God gave three festivals for the Israelites to celebrate during harvest time. These festivals include the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Tabernacles.

Scripture shares the gospel hope through the fall festival in the ancient Israeli culture. That hope lives in the heart of every Christian. In Matthew 9:37-38, Jesus said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

God desires to provide and to protect His church. God utilizes change in our lives for various reasons. Sometimes change in our life is for our protection. Changes can also open our hearts to God’s provision. God also facilitates change in our life so He can work through us to provide and protect those in our spheres of influence. Philippians 4:19 teaches us, “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

This fall season, how is God providing and protecting you each day? Where is God bringing change into your life? What purpose does God have for these changes? How can you embrace changes with trust and faith that God is always in control and working all things for the greater good?
